Tinker Tables: Creative and Collaborative Spaces!
Tinker tables are spaces within the Learning Commons that facilitate collaboration as well as challenge students to think! They may take the form of a collaborative art table, a community building graffiti wall, a STEAM-based challenge, as well as an opportunity for further inquiry using print and virtual resources. New themes and challenges will be posed and offered to the students on a bi-weekly basis. I will do my best to ensure the tables meet the educational and developmental needs of the students, and I would love to hear suggestions for tinker table ideas as well!
Tinker Tables will be introduced and showcased here, so feel free to check-in regularly to view our latest challenges and activities!

This Week's Tinker Tables:
TERRY FOX!
Using information from the books provided, map out Terry Fox’s route on the large map of Canada. How many provinces did he run through? Approximately what fraction of the country did he run through? Why is he considered a hero still today? Write the name of the person you’ll be running for on a post-it and add it anywhere to the map! |
MAKER KITS!
"Make Music From Anything" & "LittleBits STEAM student set" Come explore circuits for the next few weeks at this tech-based tinker table! For those of you looking for structured exploration, try the challenge cards found at the table! |
ZENDOODLING!
Let's create a collaborative ZENTANGLE! The word ZEN refers to a Japanese perspective of being relaxed and not worrying about the things you cannot change. It is about being aware of how you are feeling and being in control of your emotions. Besides Zendoodling, how else can you practice being MINDFUL? |
